Aviva life insurance pays on 93% of critical illness cover claims

September 08, 2010

Aviva life insurance has improved on the number of critical illness cover claims it pays out on.

Aviva life insurance paid out on 93 per cent of the critical illness cover claims it received in the first six months of the year.

More than £51 million was paid out to its critical illness cover customers in the period, with the average amount handed over standing at almost £75,000 per person.

The 93 per cent figure is two per cent up on the results for the same period in 2009.

Richard Verdin, protection director at Aviva, said: "We're proud of our critical illness payment record, as it demonstrates that we really do come through when it matters for customers."

Cancer was the most common reason for people to make a claim, with the condition being cited in 64 per cent of cases.

Last month, Alok Dhanda of Dhanda Financial told NEBusiness.co.uk that critical illness cover should be a priority for income earners with a family to provide for.
