Families 'care about the simple things'
February 21, 2012
A survey by insurer Aviva has revealed that many families still enjoy basic things, such as singing together and reading at bedtime.
It's often the simple things that make family life special, according to a new study by life insurance firm Aviva.
Researchers found that many families still enjoy 'old school' traditional past-times, despite the widespread availability of technological gadgets such as iPhones and Nintendo Wiis.
For instance, 54 per cent of respondents to Aviva's poll said they still play board games, while 61 per cent enjoy sing-a-longs on car journeys.
Most families still eat together at weekends and the average parent with young children reads bedtime stories for around 100 minutes each week.
Louise Colley, head of protection sales and marketing for Aviva, said: "The fast pace of modern life means that sometimes we take everyday things for granted, but it's really heart-warming to see that so many families still get a kick out of such basic things as going for a walk or watching a film together."
Ms Colley added that people should think about protecting their families' futures - for instance by purchasing life insurance - so they can "keep the special things special, whatever the future holds".
Aviva has been working with bereavement charity Grief Encounter and ensures all life cover customers with children have access to the charity's services in the event that the policyholder has died.
