Life insurance 'important for married couples'

September 07, 2010

Couples with shared financial commitments should have life insurance, it has been advised.

Married couples should look to take out life insurance in order to protect their spouse financially.

This is the advice of Patricia French, a spokesman for Thrivent Financial, who told Vail Daily that married people will typically share plenty of joint financial obligations in their lives together.

She said that if one partner dies unexpectedly, the other may not have enough money at their disposal to cover any final expenses and adjust to a new way of life.

"Life insurance can help ensure that these financial goals will be met," said Ms French.

Earlier this month, the US News and World Report website pointed out that one of the biggest financial mistakes made by many people is that they do not take out enough insurance, whether on their home, car or their life.

It stated that cover such as life insurance can help to protect a family's future in the event of the death of the policyholder.
