Mothers 'may need additional life insurance'
September 01, 2010
Women may need to increase the extent of their life insurance coverage to protect their children.
Many mothers may need to take out additional life insurance cover, a new survey has suggested.
According to research conducted by MetLife, married men with children have five times their annual household income in life insurance coverage on average, while women have three times the amount.
This is despite both genders expressing equal worry about what will happen to their families financially should they die - with 60 per cent of both men and women stating they are "very concerned" about the issue's potential impact on their loved ones.
Last month, an article in the Economic Times advised people who may be seeking coverage such as family life insurance about the level of protection they should be looking to provide to their family.
The piece advised that married couples may want to take out individual policies, while their coverage should "ideally" stand at around eight to ten times higher than a person's annual income.
