Zurich pays out £1.1m critical illness claim
February 01, 2012
Zurich has published critical illness claims figures for 2011, which reveal that 92 per cent of claims were paid out.
The largest single critical illness claim paid out by Zurich in 2011 was for £1.1 million, new figures reveal.
Zurich said that it paid out 92 per cent of critical illness claims last year, totalling £64.5 million.
Its figures show that 796 claims were paid out in 2011, compared with 787 the previous year.
Less than seven per cent of claims that were declined in 2011 were turned down because the definition of the condition was not met, and just eight claims were rejected as a result of non-disclosure.
Phil Brown, Zurich UK Life's head of protection and underwriting, said: "It is very positive that we continue to pay out on a significant level of valid claims, many of those at high value, and that Zurich paid out in 92 per cent of claims in 2011."
He added that the number of claims declined for non-disclosure had remained constant for a number of years, and that Zurich's straightforward handling of claims "makes a big difference to customers and their families at a time when they are in need of financial and practical support".
